Hyde Park and SoHo
SoHo is shorthand for South Howard Avenue, the strip that
holds most of South Tampa’s restaurants and bars. Hyde Park
is the historic neighborhood beside it: brick streets, bungalows and
Mediterranean revivals under live oaks, laid out long before the city
spread. This address sits where the two meet, which is the reason the
walk score is what it is.
The trade-off is honest and worth saying out loud: a block from the bars
is lively on a Friday night. Residence 216 sits inside a gated community
set back off Azeele rather than fronting Howard, but if you want silence
after 10pm, walk the block on a weekend evening before you commit.
Bayshore and the water
Bayshore Boulevard is four minutes south — a continuous
waterfront sidewalk running roughly four and a half miles along Hillsborough
Bay, and the single most used piece of public space in South Tampa. Runners
at six in the morning, strollers and dogs all evening, and the best free
view in the city.
Davis Islands is eight minutes on: a village of shops and
restaurants, a marina, a public pool and one of the few dog beaches in
Hillsborough County. Every January, Gasparilla puts a pirate flotilla on
the bay and a parade straight down Bayshore.
Errands and weekends
A Publix sits across the road, with a Starbucks and a CVS
about two minutes on foot — the trio that decides whether a place is
genuinely walkable. Trader Joe’s is a five-minute drive.
Hyde Park Village is the open-air block of shops,
restaurants and a cinema about twelve minutes’ walk away; it runs a
Sunday market most of the year. Armature Works, the
restored 1910 streetcar barn on the river that is now a food hall, is ten
minutes by car, and the Tampa Riverwalk connects it to
downtown, the museums and the aquarium.
Getting to work
Tampa General Hospital on Davis Islands is six minutes,
the University of Tampa five, and downtown seven. That
combination — hospital, university, downtown offices — is what keeps
demand under this pocket regardless of what the wider market is doing.
Tampa International is about twelve minutes, which is
unusually close for a major airport and a real advantage if you travel for
work. Midtown Tampa, the newer office, hotel and retail
district at Dale Mabry and I-275, is eight.
Schools
The address falls in the Plant High School district, one of
the most sought-after zones in Hillsborough County — and a meaningful
part of what South Tampa property is priced on. School zoning changes, and
the district is the only authority on it, so treat this as a starting point
and verify the current attendance zone with Hillsborough County
Public Schools before you rely on it.
South Tampa also has a deep bench of private and parochial options within a
short drive. Happy to walk you through the landscape either way.
Who this suits
A gated, lock-and-leave two-bedroom with in-unit laundry and assigned
garage parking is an easy fit for a professional who travels, a couple who
would rather spend Saturday on Bayshore than behind a mower, or a buyer
who wants a South Tampa address without a South Tampa single-family price.
It also makes a straightforward rental in a rental-hungry pocket —
though lease terms and minimum rental periods are set by the association,
so check the documents first if that is the plan.
